About me
Hi, I'm Jan Weis — an IT professional focused on Windows infrastructure. Since 2013 I have been writing here on IT Explorations about what really matters in daily administration: clear HowTos, PowerShell scripts and my own tools that solve real problems.
I've worked in IT security for years — usually somewhere between FortiGate rule sets, Active Directory tiers and the question of why a policy should match but stubbornly doesn't. What keeps me in this job is exactly the moment when complexity suddenly gains structure: when a tangled list turns into a clear picture.
That same standard is where the Firewall Policy Map came from. Starting with FortiGate, it now also gives FortiManager and Sophos XGS setups the overview the GUI lacks — wherever rule sets have grown over the years and turned unwieldy. Not a tool that does the work for you, but one that gives you back the overview.
What I work on
- Active Directory — delegation, permission models, management
- Windows Deployment Services — unattended installation, drivers, images
- PowerShell & automation — scripting recurring tasks instead of clicking
- Group Policy (GPO/GPP) — central configuration and rollout
- Remote Desktop Services and firewall administration (FortiGate, Sophos)
